열대 야자나무의 놀라운 삽화

1868년 12월 15일, 뮌헨 대학의 식물학 교수이자 왕립 식물원의 관장인 칼 프리드리히 필립 폰 마르티우스(Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius, 1794-1868)는 신선한 야자나무 잎으로 덮인 관에 담겨 무덤으로 옮겨졌다. 잎은 1823년에서 1853년 사이에 출판된 3권의 작품인 그의 획기적인 야자수 자연사(Natural History of Palms)에 대한 참조였다.
